In an expression a × 10^b.
A
b is order of magnitude for a ≤ 5
B
b is order of magnitude for 5 ≤ a ≤ 10
C
b is order of magnitude for a ≥ 5
D
a is order of magnitude for b ≤ 5
Explanation
In order to get an approximate idea of the number, we may round off the number a to 1 (for a ≤ 5) and to 10 (for 5 < a ≤ 10). Then the number can be expressed approximately as 10^b in which the exponent (or power) b of 10 is called order of magnitude of the physical quantity.
