Identify the correct matched pair :-
A
Anaphase-I of meiosis – centromeric division
B
Exchange of genetic material – pachytene
C
Significance of crossing over – development of parental cell
D
Cells that do not divide, are usually arrested in G₂ phase
Explanation
The exchange of genetic materials occurs in meiosis (Meiosis I) of prophase I. During pachytene sub-phase. During meiosis, genetic information is exchanged between the maternally and paternally inherited copies of a pair of chromosomes in order to create new combinations of genes through the process of crossing over. This process of genetic recombination helps to increase genetic variability within a species. Centromeric division occurs in anaphase II. The importance of crossing over is that it causes variation in the daughter cells. Cells that do not divide are usually arrested in the G₀ phase.
