Interphase is called the resting phase because
A
It is the most active phase of the cell cycle
B
There is no apparent activity related to cell division
C
It does not prepare cell for cell division
D
It is the phase when cell rests before entering mitosis
Explanation
The interphase represents the phase between two successive mitotic phases. It is the time during which the cell is preparing for division by undergoing both cell growth and DNA replication in an orderly manner. Hence, it is the most active phase of cell cycle. It is divided into G₁, S and G₂ phase. During G₁ phase the cell is metabolically very active with the continuous synthesis of proteins and formation of most intracellular organelles. S or synthesis phase marks the period during which DNA synthesis or replication takes place. And during the G₂ phase, proteins are synthesized in preparation for cell growth continues. However, there's no actual activity related to cell division. It occurs in the mitotic phase.
